The WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine has been teaching folks from all over the world since 1980. Boatbuilding is taught using a wide variety of methods, including carvel, cold-molding, stitch and glue, traditional lapstrake, glued lapstrake, and woodstrip. Aside from building boats (from scratch as well as from kits), you can learn to make your own tools, wood carving, sail making, rope craft, bronze casting, ironwork, water and oil painting, engine maintenance and repair, making cleats, spars, oars and paddles, making models, half-models, pond yachts, and more. Seamanship courses include use of our fleet of over 25 small boats, paddling and rowing courses, small boat as well as cruising boat sailing.
The WoodenBoat Store has been in the mail order business since 1975, and on-line since 1994. We offer over 150 different boatbuilding plans, a wide variety of books on boatbuilding, design, repair, history, as well as beautiful books about beautiful boats, specialized tools, model kits that you can pond sail or display on your bookshelf, and some of the kits are like a boat building course in a box. Plus we have an interesting mix of nautical gifts and WoodenBoat clothing. Our WoodenBoat Store building is on the WoodenBoat 60 acre waterfront campus.
